For feasts, a sheep head is prepared along with other dishes. The head is cut up by the head of the household at the head of the table. Different parts of the head are given to various guests, with the oldest guest typically receiving the nicest parts. In Kazakh culture, it is expected that all parts of the sheep will be used. The head of the household is offended if the portion that you are given is not eaten.
Some traditional dishes served at a feast are:
- Koju: boiled horse & sheep sausage with a milky broth served over it
- Kabyrga:boiled horse or mutton meat served on flat bread
-Kumys: fermented mares milk
-Irimshak: dried cheese balls
-Baursaks: fried dough balls dipped in sugar
