History
The first people to stay in what is now Kazakhstan territory were the nomadic tribes. During that time, horses began first being domesticated. The Kazakhstan’s are still known today as some of the best horse trainers throughout the world. Horses are also one of the main livestock that Kazakh consume along with sheep and beef. Kazakhstan did not stay unconquered for long. Beginning in the 17th century until the 19th century, Kazakhstan was ruled by the Russian empire. In 1931, there was a civil war leading to the country being recognized as the Kazakh Soviet Socialist Republic and they became part of the Soviet Union. During this time, Kazakhs experienced hard times. From 1932-1933, they experienced the Soviet Famine, losing almost 22% of their population from starvation and emigration. Many Kazakhs were forced out of the country by the Soviet Union due to their beliefs and heritage. For the next sixty years, the Kazaks would be under the Soviet Republic until their independence day on December 16, 1991.
